Tell us what you think of BCC's offer. TSU members have their say!
The Services Union is By Your Side when it comes to negotiating pay rises and conditions at Brisbane City Council
(‘BCC’).
Yesterday, we attended a bargaining meeting which was also attended by your Chief Executive Officer, Kerrie Freeman.
Members had anticipated an offer from management, given our last update on the subject.
Hopefully members were not holding their breaths for this offer…
BCC’s offer was as follows:
- Three-year term.
- Year 1 - $62 per week or 3.25% whichever is greater.
- Year 2 – 3%.
- Year 3 - 3%.
- Allowances to increase by 3.25% per year.
BCC said they had considered the economic data such as Brisbane and national CPI, as well as Reserve Bank of Australia projections into next year.
BCC put this forward on the basis that their view is that the Agreement is working well and they do not want further changes (just ‘tidy ups’). They have made the offer on basis that it resolves the Union’s log of claims items (specifically items with significant costs).
BCC asked the Unions for their reaction to the offer.
The Services Union noted that our intention is to survey our members to get their views, however we are underwhelmed by the wages offer and our view is that the offer needed to be enhanced to incentivise our members agreeing to forgo items on our log of claims.
Other Unions gave similar views about the quantum. In addition, many of the trades and operational based Unions put forward a 36 hour week for BCC’s consideration.
BCC have said they will go away and consider the feedback provided before the next meeting in two weeks’ time.
What is your view?
