Strike at Western Downs Regional Council
The Services Union stands with Western Downs Regional Council (WDRC) workers and remains committed to securing a fair wage outcome that helps ease cost of living pressures on household budgets.
Despite multiple hearings in the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission (QIRC), Council and elected officials continue to delay addressing workers' concerns while the cost of living keeps rising.
This is a familiar tactic - drag out negotiations and hope workers become frustrated enough to accept less than they deserve. But your actions have shown the opposite.
Despite operating in the heart of Queensland's Energy Capital and being in a strong financial position, WDRC continues to fall behind many other councils on wages.
While the Council plays games, wages and conditions continue to fall further behind many other Councils. This makes attraction and retention at WDRC even more concerning, ultimately resulting in workers doing more with less.
Last week, members were surveyed about taking further industrial action. The response was overwhelming:
YES.
To send a message that workers will not be ignored, unions are calling on all members to participate in protected industrial action in the form of a strike.

This strike is about more than wages. It is about respect, ensuring WDRC workers don’t fall further behind, and recognising the essential services you deliver.
Most importantly, it is about showing Council and elected officials that workers are united, determined, and prepared to stand together until a fair outcome is achieved.
The stronger our turnout, the stronger our message.
Stand with your workmates and help show Council that WDRC workers deserve better.
