Ports North Bargaining Update

The Services Union is by your side to gain the best possible agreement for you at Ports North. At yesterday’s meeting we finalised provisions relating to purchased annual leave and annualised salaries.

The significant outstanding matters are:
  • Flexible Working Arrangements
  • Salary sacrifice
  • Annual leave shutdown
  • A week of secondary parental leave
  • Employee Consultative Group

The Services Union will now write to Ports North to outline our remaining issues in relation to these claims.

Further progress is possible. In relation to Salary Sacrifice Ports North has now agreed to seek approval for salary sacrifice of Airport Lounge membership. The claim in relation to salary sacrifice of electric vehicles remains unresolved. One of the Services Union’s Senior Industrial Officers, Ben Ellis will be in Cairns next week and available to discuss the enterprise bargaining process and any issues you may have. Watch out for details.

Ports North has advised that it intends to hold Information meetings about the EB in the next week as well.

Branch Secretary Neil Henderson is also planning to attend the next bargaining meeting in Cairns. As the operative date we would like to achieve is 1 July 2026, under the Government Owned Corporation Wages Policy we need to reach in principle agreement by 31 July 2026.

The restrictive nature of the GOC Wages Policy means we don’t always achieve everything we set out for in the bargaining process. What we do achieve is the product of power in the workplace because you have joined the Union. Not on board yet? Join today!
