What do Centacare workers want in the Agreement?
We know how important your wages and working conditions at Centacare are to you, and our Union will be by your side as you continue to seek improvements to your current conditions.
In early November 2023, in response to our claim to secure members above Award provisions on the sunsetting of your current Zombie Agreement, Centacare notified of their intention to negotiate a new Agreement. Centacare also made an application to the Fair Work Commission (the FWC) to extend your current Agreement while negotiations occurred.
The FWC has decided to extend your current Agreement through until 6 December 2024, with the understanding that Centacare intends to negotiate a new Agreement. Your current above Award conditions will continue to apply until a new Agreement is approved by the FWC or the 6 December 2024, whichever comes first.
To ensure we are on track to make a new Agreement, negotiations will commence shortly. Our Union will be representing our members during the negotiations, and the first step in that process is to establish our Log of Claims.
What is a Log of Claims?
This is a list of items relating to your wages and conditions that you’d like to see form part of your new Agreement.
It has been sixteen years since your current Agreement was negotiated, so there will be changes that need to be made to ensure that it meets the requirements of the Fair Work Act.
In addition, workplace Agreements are a way to lift Industry standards and that’s why our Union will advance a core set of claims in our log, including:
- Fair pay, providing a decent living standard; increase to Allowances and indexation of Allowances;
- Fair Grievance/Disciplinary process, consultation process, employment security and introduction of change, Flexible Work Arrangement provisions;
- Workplace Rights including Respectful Behaviour, Trade Union training, recognition of Delegates.
- Inclusion of Domestic and Family Violence Leave;
- Inclusion of Natural Disaster Leave;
- Inclusion of Mental Health and Wellbeing provisions.
Of equal importance to these core claims is what members want contained in a new Agreement. Members’ feedback will be considered and the issues which are most deeply and widely felt by our membership will form part of our Union’s Log of Claims.
To ensure that members have an opportunity to participate fully, we invite you to complete our survey to provide your feedback on how to improve your conditions at Centacare.
