Update for Churches of Christ Members - Redundancy notification given
Our Union has continued to meet weekly with Churches of Christ (CofC) as an outcome of our dispute notification and CofC’s commitment to working with our Union.
Through these meetings we have raised and pursued outcomes to members questions relating to redundancy and redeployment.
The outcome of these discussions are reflected in the Frequently Asked Question sheets that have been provided to staff from CofC. The most recent when can be accessed here.
Notification of redundancy has now occurred to all Youth Residential and Supported Independent Living staff with the end date of 30 September 2023 or service closure, whichever comes first.
For impacted Family Support Services Staff, notification will occur in the coming months once discussions with CofC and the Department have concluded.

CofC’s decision to hand back their contracts to the Department of Child Safety, Seniors and Disability Services (“the Department”) has been difficult for our directly affected members. We understand that part of CofCs decision is based on insufficient funding. Our union is lending our voice to the Queensland Youth Housing Coalition and sector through our campaign, to boost funding to these direct services, with the aim of Strengthening Queensland’s Youth Specialist Housing Services. The campaign calls for an immediate increase to specialist youth homelessness services by 25% to increase the capacity of services including the ability to operate a two-person worker model where required.
