Time to get it right at Whitsunday Regional Council

The Services Union resumed pay negotiations last Thursday with Whitsunday Regional Council. Following the Council’s application for assistance from the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission, the discussions were chaired by Industrial Commissioner McLennan.

New Council Offer

After discussions assisted by Commissioner McLennan, the Council tabled a new offer as follows:

4% back-paid to the first pay period on or after 8 February 2022

3.75% to be paid from the first pay period on or after 8 February 2023

Service Recognition provision will be restored to the Agreement and amended as agreed to allow a choice between a Gold Watch and a voucher.

Two-year agreement to expire on 7 February 2024.

Union Members Decide

Members of The Services Union can now vote on whether the proposal should go to a general ballot of employees. The Services Union believes this is a solid outcome that should be endorsed and recommends that members support the proposal. We have sent all members a link to an electronic survey, which closes at 2pm tomorrow (Wednesday 5 October). If you have not received your link, please advise us as soon as possible.

Well done to members for standing up for a fair outcome. Welcome to those who recently joined to help make it happen. If you work with someone who you know will appreciate the improved pay deal but is not yet a member, remind them that joining is easy online.
