Union gets Mount Isa bargaining back on track

The Services Union remains by your side as we negotiate your new Certified Agreement (CA) at Mount Isa City Council. Today’s meeting was short and perhaps slightly sweeter than previous CA discussions. The interim CEO worked with us to establish where the bargaining was up to, and to lock in the schedule for future negotiations. Our Union was also able to gain confirmation that the Council would now approach negotiations using the existing CA, rather than trying to keep pushing the previously tabled management-proposed draft document.

The 2.5% administrative increase is a (small) step in the right direction. However, we requested that the Council keep our Union and all negotiating parties updated regarding its intentions in future. Coupled with what we hope will be a more productive bargaining schedule, such improved communications with your representatives will help rebuild the staff morale and good-will which were damaged by the Council’s bargaining approach up till today.

We will resume negotiations on Thursday 2 February 2023 and will meet with the Council every three weeks. In the meantime, refer any questions to your Workplace Delegate Richard Auld or your organiser Glenn Desmond. We seem to have got the wagon back on track, but it will take a strong and united membership to push it to its rightful destination. If you work with someone who is not yet a member, remind them that joining is easy online.

The Services Union is the union fighting for members at Mt Isa Council.
