Time to get it right at Whitsunday Regional Council

The Services Union is by your side every step of the way to achieve a fair pay outcome at Whitsunday Regional Council.

The current economic conditions affect everybody in your community. There is no clear picture of when those conditions will moderate. Prices are up due to demand and cost pressures. Unemployment is at an all-time low.

We know two important things. The first is that wage increases have not contributed to the current level of inflation.

The second is that the Council is seeking a “no extra claims” provision for your new Certified Agreement (CA). Therefore, if a low-ball offer along the lines currently proposed by the Council were accepted, you would be trapped in a low wage outcome for three years.

The Queensland Industrial Relations Commission (QIRC) conference – which the Council initiated – commences this Thursday 29 September in Proserpine. Because the new CA will effectively prevent you from addressing issues about your pay and conditions for three years, it is important that we make full use of this two-day conference to discuss your pay and get it right.

The Services Union’s Secretary Neil Henderson will appear at the conference on behalf of our Union and will convene a members’ meeting on Wednesday evening to discuss our approach. Please stay tuned for details. If you work with someone who wants a better deal but is not yet a member, remind them that joining is easy online.
