Tableland Regional Council’s offer further devalues your pay!

Members of The Services Union at Tablelands Regional Council know the challenges of working for a regional Local Authority. Members also know that as your ally in the workplace, our Union is by your side to ensure you get the pay and conditions you deserve.

At last week’s negotiations we managed to get the Council to move on its ‘Ordinary Days and Span of Hours’ clause. Currently the clause removes the entitlement to weekend penalty rates. The new proposal ensures indoor staff working ordinary hours during the weekend will receive time and a half for the first three hours of work and double time thereafter on a Saturday, and double time all day on a Sunday.

The rhino in the room is that the Council is still offering the outdoor workers 1% more than indoor staff in the first and second years of the agreement. Once again, we put it to the Council that it would need to justify this obviously unfair approach to pay, especially when the rates for Levels 1 to 3 at your workplace are the lowest in your region!

The We have also written to your CEO explaining how the Council’s current approach to differential wage increases is unfair. Click here to take a look .

We expect some feedback from the Council this week. In the meantime, members know we’re by your side for as long as it takes to secure a fair salary outcome. Remind your colleagues of what we’re doing to maintain and improve your conditions. If you work with anyone who is not yet a member and wants an equitable pay deal, encourage them to join online.
