Queensland Rail - We have filed for Protected Action

Following a significant amount of feedback from members, the combined rail unions have come to the position that following QR's sad and inadequate ‘offer’ last Friday, that it is now necessary for us to file for a protected action ballot order.

"Protected action" is industrial action (like strikes!), and is a process provided for under the Fair Work Act which protects you from your employer taking adverse action against you if you take part in it.

In order for the action to be protected, we must first have a vote on if the majority of employees agree to take industrial action. Today we commenced that process.

While we remain hopeful that we will still reach agreement with Queensland Rail at some point, at this stage we cannot possibly agree to what they have put on the table. It is a slap in the face to rail workers doing it tough in this cost of living crisis and it's time we took a stand.

In the coming weeks you will receive a text message to vote on whether you will take protected industrial action to win something better. The success of this vote could mean the difference between a decent wage rise which addresses inflation, or accepting a bad deal which makes workers poorer.

We will continue to update you with timelines and advice over the coming week.
