QantasLink work to stay with Qantas

In May this year, Qantas announced new services from Brisbane to Honiara in the Solomon Islands and Wellington in New Zealand. These routes will be flown by the QantasLink E190 fleet as part of the existing Qantas arrangement with Alliance Airlines.

Qantas union members had serious concerns of the potential outsourcing of ‘Above the Wing’ services for QantasLink. However, today we are delighted to inform our members, that after a number of requests by the Services Union, Qantas has now confirmed that all operations will be delivered by the Qantas Brisbane Customer Experience (CE) team.

The ‘Above the Wing’ services include (but are not limited to): check-in, departures, arrivals, baggage services, seamless, Customers with Specific Needs (CWSN) and MOCO/POCO for these flights. This will be for an initial period of 12 months.

These new routes are scheduled to commence on 29 October, and Qantas will work with the QantasLink project team to ensure that the gate agents are trained and comfortable operating the E190 door, and that these new services are integrated into the international operations. It is possible that there will be a requirement for more staff to help deliver this work. Given that Qantas currently provide CE services including check-in to QantasLink for the E190 aircraft at the Domestic terminal, training, processes, and systems are already in place for several areas.

Qantas union members collectively and actively worked towards this excellent outcome!
