Members support pay offer at Sunshine Coast Council

Members of The Services Union have voted to support Sunshine Coast Council’s pay offer as tabled following two full days in the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission (QIRC).

The offer contains the same improvements as the Field Employees’ Certified Agreement (CA), without the trade-offs your outdoor colleagues made to achieve this outcome.

This means the same 15% increase over three years, the same $800 sign-on bonus, the same $60 per day on-call allowance and the same 14 weeks’ paid parental leave without giving away your safeguards against contracting out and supervisor rotation, and without watering down your current personal leave arrangements.

While a higher pay increase would always be an added bonus, supporting the current proposal avoids a lengthy arbitration process which could have produced a lesser result.

As agreed at the QIRC, we will notify the Council today of members’ support for the proposal. Once we have received and reviewed the Council’s draft CA to ensure it captures all agreed changes, we will advise the Council of our in-principle agreement for a full staff ballot.

Bargaining is nearly always a complex process and your determination to maintain your conditions has paid off. If you work with someone who is not yet a member and will appreciate hanging on to their current entitlements, joining is easy online.
