Time for Gympie Regional Council to Shift Focus

When it comes to navigating the difficult times at Gympie Regional Council, The Services Union is by your side!

Your recent staff survey confirmed that morale is at an all-time low, so it’s unbelievable that the Council would put so much effort into lowering it further. But instead of lightening your unreasonable workload and delivering better services to ratepayers by filling the 100-plus positions still vacant after 12 months, the Council has its managers interrogating you and your colleagues about whether you are union members. Also, rather than meaningfully discussing an appropriate pay package to help you deal with the cost of living, the Council has been more intent on threatening employees with repercussions for exercising their industrial rights!

Fortunately, the efforts of our Union have convinced the Council to return to the bargaining table next Tuesday 23 August – more than a week earlier than the date the Council previously proposed. On the agenda is the Council’s response to our recent proposal for a proper pay package. Your bargaining team will brief our Strike Committee on the outcome and we’ll be in touch with another update. In the meantime, remind your colleagues that Union activity is the key to a shifting the Council’s focus towards a better deal.
