Congratulations Carly

Congratulations to our Delegate Carly Hanson who is our Emma Miller Awardee for 2023.

Queensland Unions has proudly hosted the annual the Emma Miller Awards since 1997. They are a tribute to the pioneering spirit of Emma Miller, a strong advocate for workers’ and women’s rights in Queensland. The award celebrates the achievements of contemporary union women and recognises rank and file female members for their commitment and achievements.

Carly is a qualified lawyer with an interest in human rights and access to justice, governance and sustainability of non-profit organisations, worker wellbeing, and equality for women, and has been involved with the SACS sector since 2008. She works as a Sector Sustainability Coordinator at Community Legal Centres Queensland. Before starting with CLCQ, Carly held paid and volunteer positions in the SACS sector, including Working Women Queensland/Basic Rights Queensland and Women’s Legal Service.

Carly assists members to provide effective, high quality services to their communities. She supports the development of organisational capacity of member organisations, including undertaking accreditation and quality improvement processes to support members' professional standards, and through projects and initiatives that promote innovative and collaborative services.

Carly has been a member of The Services Union since 2016, a delegate at Community Legal Centres Queensland for the past five years, a member of the SACS IDC for the past few years and a delegate at Women’s Legal Service prior to that. Carly was  heavily involved in campaigning for Portable Long Service Leave for the SACS sector, attending meetings with Queensland MPs as a Delegate, participating as a member of the Office of Industrial Relations Taskforce, writing submissions on behalf of the community legal sector and appearing before the Queensland Parliamentary Committee examining the Community Services Industry (Portable Long Service Leave) Bill 2019.

Thank you and congratulations Carly.
