Congratulations to our Delegate of the Year, Terese Tobin from Gladstone Ports Corporation.

Terese works as an Environment Specialist for Maintenance Dredging, Quarries, and Major Projects.

She has been a member of our Union for a decade at Gladstone Ports Corp. and a Union Delegate for the past four years.

Terese is an extremely active advocate for members' rights in her workplace.

She galvanised the salaried officers to act collectively in pursuit of better outcomes through bargaining. This was often in the face of pressure from other unions to finalise negotiations, and threats from her employer because of her union activism.

She has continued over the past year to capitalise on those achievements in working with her fellow delegates to ensure all Salaried Officer members were able to negotiate beneficial individual working hours arrangements.

More recently, Terese has taken on a role coordinating delegates at the Port and the delegates of the combined unions to build a more cohesive and active workplace prior to bargaining. This has included coordinating effective responses across unions to workplace change, policy development, and union visibility in the workplace.

Terese represents members with their issues, and she is currently assisting First Nations members to ensure the value of their work is properly recognised.

Terese has also taken an active role in social issues and has played a role in establishing the Central Queensland Labor Women’s Network.

Without Terese' tireless efforts, our Union would not have grown our membership, nor achieved the full extent of industrial outcomes over the past 12 months.

We thank Terese for all her hard and dedicated work and congratulate her on being awarded our Delegate of the Year – 2023.

Above: Congratulations Terese.
