My name is Kiz. Like you, I proudly work in the community and disability sector. I am also an ASU member.
Today, I have good news that may impact you too.
Today, all community and disability workers who work under the SCHADS Award will receive a pay rise of 4.6%.

Workers on the minimum wage will also receive the most significant pay rise in sixteen years - a 5.2% wage increase.
But these wins didn’t fall from the sky.
All year, Services Union members have made it clear that the community and disability sector is worth more at work. You supported our campaign and can see the benefit of working collectively, so I ask you to become a part of our Union today.
In March, I was part of a union delegation explaining what this pay rise would mean for me, along with ASU members, Lilly, Harvey and Adele. You can watch me explain here.
I was not alone. Every member was a part of this push for our worth at work to be recognised.
Behind me were thousands of members working in the community and disability sector calling for this pay rise.
Many like you signed and shared this petition calling for this pay increase.
Our Unions formal submission to Fair Work told the stories of workers like you and me who do a lot for the community but don’t really get paid enough for that work. Let’s be honest. It’s tough now with the cost of living be so high. Wages just weren’t keeping up.
But as a result of union members, the Fair Work Commission recently ruled in our favour at the 2022 National Award Review that decides our wages.
And today, workplaces across Australia will receive a pay rise.
Together, union members collectively won this for all workers on Minimum Wage and those on Award wages. That’s 2.7 million workers who will benefit.
Today’s pay rise is needed and also well-deserved. Our sector has carried communities through the pandemic, fires, floods, and drought.
But there’s more to do.
Throughout our sector’s history, it has been members working in the community and disability services who have fought for our worth at work to be recognised.
Over the years, this has led to big wins. But we need to keep this momentum going.
Today, I ask you to be part of it. Will you join me and thousands of other members working in the community and disability sector by becoming a Services member too?
The more members we have, the more likely our worth at work will be recognised both now and into the future.
