You Made Portable Long Service Leave A Reality For SACS Workers!
Congratulations members of The Services Union, we have been successful in making Long Service Leave for Social, Community and Disability Workers, portable!
The Community Services Industry (Portable Long Service Leave) Bill 2019 has been passed by the Queensland State Government. This significant piece of legislation, brought by the Minister for Education and Industrial Relations the Hon. Grace Grace MP, ensures the establishment of a Portable Long Service Leave Scheme for Social, Community and Disability Services workers.
We have been campaigning for many years to have this Scheme established so that members service to the Industry can finally be acknowledged, giving all members the ability to access a block of paid long service leave. The passing of this legislation now makes this a reality!
In turn this will make our Industry one that is more desirable to work in and allow workers to map out a career in the Industry which can only deliver better outcomes for those the Industry supports.
Secretary Neil Henderson has issued a media release celebrating this historic event and a copy can be read here.
This win was only achievable through members efforts whether it be the signing of petitions; sharing information on face book, writing submissions or just showing your support by putting a poster up in your workplace. Well done members!
Its only by workers being members of unions that we can combine our efforts to run these kinds of Industry Campaigns to shape the Industry. This is union membership at work and a clear demonstration of why it pays to be union.
