Portable Long Service Leave Takes Shape
A report to the IR Minister Grace Grace MP by the Portable Long Service Leave Taskforce has mapped out the look and timing of the key elements for a Portable Long Service Leave Scheme for the Social and Community Services Industry.
Key among the recommendations is a start date of 1 July 2020 and access to leave entitlements after seven years.
The Taskforce has also recommended a scheme which will cover all employees whose employment is covered by the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award among others.
The joint communique of the Taskforce can be read here and summarises the Taskforce’s report on a number of recommendations for the Minister’s consideration.
Speaking at The Services Union Delegates Conference last week, Grace Grace said that she would now set the wheels in motion in the State Government to get a Bill into the Parliament before the end of the year.
This is very exciting news but there is still a lot of work to do to ensure that Portable Long Service Leave is achieved.
