Cabinet Endorses A Portable Long Service Leave Scheme For You! Still Work To Do!
The Portable Long Service Leave Taskforce which includes The Services Union recently met with the Minister for Industrial Relations, Grace Grace MP.
The Taskforce has recommended a Long Service Leave Scheme which will cover all employees whose employment is covered by the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Award the (SCHADS Award) among others.
The joint communique of the Taskforce can be read here and summarises the Taskforce’s report on a number of recommendations for the Minister’s consideration.
In meeting with the Taskforce, Minister Grace confirmed that the proposed Scheme had been endorsed by Cabinet. Legislation is also being prepared for a Portable Long Service Leave Scheme which would focus on the employees covered by the SCHADS Award and organisations that have their main work in that industry.
The decision also notes a start date of 1 July 2020 and access to leave entitlements after seven years.
There is still a lot of work to do to ensure that Portable Long Service Leave is achieved.
