Gladstone Ports Corporation Enterprise Bargaining

Ports & Private November 15, 2019

The Services Union is preparing to initiate bargaining process across all relevant Government Owned Corporations (GOC) including the Gladstone Ports Corporation in 2020. Your Enterprise Agreement (EA) expires on 31 October 2020.

Our Union held meetings with members recently and discussed how critical the timeframe is between now and the state election in October 2020. Key to the discussion was understanding how quickly the election and the expiry of the agreement will approach next year, and strategically considering what claims to pursue in any log.

Why the urgency?

Well the current Labor Government is no certainty to win the next election and we know the previous Campbell Newman LNP Government set about to privatise Ports and the Electricity Industry while sacking thousands of Public Servants. We cannot forget how the LNP arbitrarily making changes to the GOC wages policy designed to strip away conditions and impose managerial prerogative at the core of agreements while disregarding bargaining outcomes previously agreed to by the parties’ thorough hard fought but fair industrial processes.

I’m sure members don’t want to be in that position next year and this means we need to bring forward the negotiations and ideally having an agreement voted on and lodged before care taker government comes into effect.

What’s next?

Given the above and the discussion outcomes of recent member meetings we need to know your view on what claims to pursue. Complete our survey and let us know what claims you want us to pursue.
