Union Wins on Policy Changes at Scenic Rim
The Services Union claimed a significant win around Scenic Rim Regional Council’s proposed policy changes at yesterday’s Joint Consultative Committee (JCC).
Your Workplace Delegates have been working hard recently to represent members’ interests in the face of Council’s desired changes. Council stated yesterday that it would delay the implementation timelines of several new policies about which members had flagged significant concerns. Our Union welcomed this undertaking, and the altered introduction timelines will give us more time to consult with members.
As such, members can expect notification of work groups to gather views in relation to higher duties and leave policy amendments. If you have feedback on those policy areas, please take the opportunity to attend a work group.
Union members have twin advantages when it comes to policy consultation: input into any proposed changes, and a dedicated team to negotiate the changes with Council.
On the subject of negotiating, please be advised that the TWU has notified Council of its intention to bargain for a new Certified Agreement. Our Union is already several steps ahead, having surveyed our members to develop our log of claims, a copy of which will be circulated for members’ approval shortly.
Whether it’s changes to policy or a new CA, strong union membership gets the goods. We congratulate our existing members on a strong policy win, and we welcome the many new members who’ve recently joined. Not yet among them? Get on board now: www.theservicesunion.com.au.
