Union Resumes Negotiations at Somerset
The Services Union will resume Certified Agreement (CA) discussions with Somerset Regional Council today, following our Union’s recent application to the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission (QIRC) for assistance to finalise the new CA.
Somerset is one of the last remaining Councils operating the two-tier wage system. This inequitable legacy of the Newman state government provides for lower pay for new employees on levels 1 to 3, although they perform the same work as existing staff. Members of The Services Union have frequently and strongly stated that Somerset should join the other Councils previously under Newman-era agreements by ditching the two-tier system.
Services Union organiser Lachlan Enshaw will be on-site at Esk prior to and following today’s meeting, and we will update all members with any developments.
Right across Queensland, our experience has shown that the best way to achieve a decent CA with equitable pay is by strong Union membership. If you’re not on board yet, joining is easy at www.theservicesunion.com.au.
