Paroo Shire Council Underpayment Wages Claim!
Being a member of The Services Union means if you are not paid correctly – we’ll always be by your side to support you industrially.
Recently, we commenced an underpayment of wages claim on behalf of a member against Paroo Shire Council and it’s clear Council got it totally wrong at the expense of staff and ratepayers!
Council appointed a lawyer to act for them to fight the claim however our Union opposed this as we believed it was in contravention of the Queensland Industrial Relations Act. This matter was then heard before Commissioner Dwyer of the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission (QIRC) who found in our members favour that Council couldn’t be represented by a lawyer in the matter of a wages claim.
The underpayment of wages claim will now proceed with Council representing itself and our Union will represent our member. However, it has been the ratepayers of Paroo Shire that have footed the lawyer’s bill!
Please pass this newsletter onto colleagues in your work areas and show them that being a member of our Union means you will never have to foot a lawyer’s bill if Council decides to underpay you!
