North Burnett Update – Commitments from Council
The Services Union met with North Burnett Regional Council (NBRC) in the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission (QIRC) today to discuss our concerns over the Council’s proposed cuts to Customer Service and Libraries.
Council sought approval to be represented by their lawyer, Ms Wishart from Murdoch’s. Not a cheap exercise and one that was doomed to fail from the get-go! Council’s request was not approved and we proceeded with the CEO and HR Manager present.
Our concerns about the process and decisions so far were heard and it appears our views were shared. Council have agreed to cease the current consultation process.
Impacted employees should receive letters tomorrow advising what will be happening next, and we will be discussing consultation processes and other issues at the Joint Consultative Committee in the next week.
We have requested a list of vacancies, and other roles being performed by external contractors. Council have agreed to this and committed to ensure there will be proper consideration of all possible ways to mitigate the effects of any possible future changes.
This has been a very important process and we are pleased to have these commitments from Council. We will be organising a Union meeting in the near future to discuss the next steps for members.
If you know anyone else who works for Council please make sure they understand what has been achieved on behalf of members and encourage them to Join The Services Union today.
