North Burnett Regional Council – Union Challenges Council
It’s been a very stressful few months for North Burnett Regional Council (NBRC) staff with the ongoing service delivery review.
Unfortunately, Council has chosen to ignore several requests from The Services Union to start engaging in meaningful consultation. So today we lodged a dispute in the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission (QIRC).
In particular, NBRC are ignoring two vital cornerstones of your Certified Agreement:
1. Consulting with staff and Unions prior to a decision being made;
2. Engaging contractors for the purpose of providing services that would ordinarily be provided by Council employees.
What happens now?
The Council has to maintain the status quo now that we have lodged a dispute. That means that there will be no further consultation or changes until this dispute is heard at the QIRC.
In the meantime, we have organised an urgent paid time meeting with members to discuss your concerns
Thursday 9th September 8am (Zoom link sent via email)
What can you do now?
Do not attend a meeting with management without your Workplace Delegate, and do not sign anything!
Members can always access advice and support by calling Services Connect on (07) 3844 5300.
We also strongly urge you to discuss this situation with your colleagues and encourage non-members to join, by calling Services Connect or online at: https://www.theservicesunion.com.au/member-information/join/
We know that your job at North Burnett Regional Council is an essential part of your local community.
We will be with you every step of the way during consultation with Council.
