Local Government Workers – We’re With You At Work and Beyond

Local Authorities December 18, 2020

The Services Union is by your side if disaster strikes. With 2020 drawing to a close and the season of floods and fires upon us, we’d like to remind our members in Local Government that we have negotiated Natural Disaster Leave provisions into many of our Certified Agreements. If you cannot access Natural Disaster Leave you may also be entitled to take Carer’s Leave if you have to leave or remain away from work to care for family members.

Circumstances and entitlements will vary from workplace to workplace, so check with your Workplace Delegate or contact Services Connect on 3844 5300.

For members who have suffered loss or hardship due to natural disaster events, you may be eligible for financial assistance from our Union’s Natural Disaster Fund. To qualify:

  • You must have been a financial member of the Union immediately prior to the natural disaster to qualify for access to The Services Union Natural Disaster Relief Fund; and
  • You have suffered significant loss to your owner-occupied principal place of residence and be uninsured or your claim for insurance rejected; or
  • You have suffered a significant loss of your essential household items and be uninsured or your claim for insurance rejected.

If you meet these criteria, download the form via the following link (click here), and send completed to general@theservicesunion.com.au. If you need assistance completing the form, or if you have any other questions, contact Services Connect on 3844 5300.

We congratulate all of our Local Government members on making it through a very difficult year, and we take this opportunity to wish you the compliments of the Festive Season. Members know we are your ally in the workplace and beyond. If you work with someone who’s not yet a member, remind them of what we do. Joining is easy at www.theservicesunion.com.au/member-information/join/join-now.
