Do You Deserve Locality Allowances?

Local Authorities September 25, 2019

Do you deserve locality allowances? Do you deserve an additional week of annual leave?

The Services Union thinks you do. In 2016 we were able to convince the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission (QIRC) that you do deserve these entitlements.

Now three years later, your employer has not paid you these entitlements and the Local Government Association (LGAQ) has made an application to the QIRC to remove them.

On 2 August 2019, the LGAQ lodged an application with the QIRC to remove conditions from the Queensland Local Government Industry (Stream A) Award – State 2017 (the Stream A Award). The application seeks to remove Locality Allowances from:

  • Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council;
  • Mapoon Aboriginal Shire Council;
  • Northern Peninsula Area Regional Council;
  • Napranum Aboriginal Shire Council; and
  • Torres Strait Island Regional Council.

The application also seeks to remove the fifth week of annual leave from

  • Mapoon Aboriginal Shire Council;
  • Northern Peninsula Area Regional Council; and
  • Torres Strait Island Regional Council.

Why are they doing this?

Your employer says that you should have never been given these conditions despite the fact that your neighbouring Councils all provide the conditions and have done so for decades.

Do you want the Union to oppose the application, and continue to demand that Stream A Award employees are treated equally?
