Cassowary Coast Negotiations Update

Local Authorities June 3, 2019

The final conciliation meeting for the Cassowary Coast Regional Council Certified Agreement (CA) negotiations was held on Friday 31 May 2019. Representatives from the various Unions involved attended the meeting with Queensland Industrial Relations Commission (QIRC) Deputy President and Council Management to discuss the outstanding items for the new CA.

Good News!

Council have agreed to the Combined Union request for a 3-year agreement.

That means, the wage increases in the Draft Agreement are as follows:

  • $1,700 (already paid) + 1% from 3 December 2018;
  • 2.5% from 3 December 2019; and
  • 2.5% from 3 December 2020.

That also means that all outstanding negotiation items have been finalised (in principle) and we have not scheduled any further negotiation or conciliation meetings.

The Next Steps

We are now waiting for a final version of the Draft Agreement from Council. Council have committed to providing that document by close of business Friday 7 June 2019.

Once we receive the document, we will conduct a full industrial review, ensuring there are no discrepancies in the document.

At that stage, we will also draft a comparison document detailing the changes between the Draft Agreement and your current Certified Agreement.

We will provide this document to all members via email.

Once members at Cassowary Coast have had an opportunity to review that document, we will be seeking your approval to give Council approval to conduct a full staff vote on the Draft Agreement.

Please keep an eye out for our upcoming correspondence as we are now in the final stages of this process – it is important that you know the conditions in the Draft Agreement and have a say.
