Union ‘Callide B’ Discussions with CS Energy
Representatives of The Services Union and other Unions with members at CS Energy Callide Power Station met with CS Energy Chair Jim Soorley, CEO Andrew Bills and other Senior Executives Monday 21 October 2019 to discuss what is happening with Callide B.
The Services Union sought the meeting after the 2028 potential closure date was announced by AEMO. Members have been reporting the various rumors that are circulating and their concerns.
We were told that CS does not have a concrete plan for the future operation of Callide B at this stage, but definitely has a plan to have a plan. The Company is engaged in scenario planning at the moment, and its intention is to keep the asset running as long as possible.
All Unions put the view to CS Energy that consultation and taking the workforce with them is the key.
To this end it was agreed that the Company will provide a briefing to the Callide workforce on the operating environment that the business is facing and the options for the asset which are being worked through. These briefings which will be attended by Union Officials will take place in mid -November on site.
The Services Union will also be conducting on site next week – Thursday 31 October 2019.
We are also expecting to be meeting with the Minister for Energy Dr Anthony Lynham next week for a briefing on the Government’s position.
There is much to be done as we deal with the major change confronting the generation industry, but we can work through this together for the best outcome.
