The QIRC agrees with members at Mackay Regional Council

The Full Bench of the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission (QIRC) has delivered its decision about the wage increase for employees at Mackay Regional Council.

In short, the Bench agreed with our Union’s submissions and determined that back-pay will be made to 1 July 2020.

The QIRC rejected the Council’s argument that different wage increases between Stream A employees and their Stream B and C colleagues was acceptable. The Bench decided that it simply would not be fair. Accordingly, your back pay will mean that any differential in the percentage amounts will be rectified.

Here is what you will receive:

  • 2.5% increase for all employees covered by the Stream A, B and C awards for the periods commencing 1 July 2022;
  • 2.5% increase for all employees covered by the Stream A, B and C awards for the periods commencing 1 July 2023;
  • 0.5% increase for Stream A Award employees effective from 1 July 2021; and 1% increase for Stream A Award employees, and
  • a .5% increase for employees covered by Stream B and C, backdated to 1 July 2020.
This will make the percentage wage increases the same for all employees.

Congratulations to all Union members and the Workplace Delegates who worked so hard to achieve this outcome.
